Kelsey Johnson: The problem of light pollution - and 5 ridiculously easy ways to fix it - This 13 minute long Ted Talk not only explains her own experiences with light pollution as an astrophysicist, but also describes a variety of light pollution consequences on our health, electricity usage, and technology. Luckily, she describes some easy solutions: from buying LEDs to pursuing lighting code regulations in your local community. Lucianne Walkowicz: Look up for a change - Lucianne Walkowicz studies solar flares and is working on NASA's Kepler mission! In just 11 minutes, she explains how technology is impacted through light pollution and ways to help through citizen science projects. One great example she gives is "Zooniverse", where ordinary people can help classify objects like galaxies and exoplanets. Diane Knutson: Why we need darkness - Former National Park Ranger Diane Knutson explains her experiences with light pollution in national parks and how the "Earth Hour" celebration each year (where residents are encouraged to turn off / dim their outdoor lights for an hour) has been a great success.
